The Charlotte Checkers called in an NFL superstar to help out with their Football Night on Thursday.
Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton designed the jerseys that the American Hockey League affiliate of the Carolina Hurricanes wore as part of the promotion.
Excited to be in the building for Football Night at the @CheckersHockey game. Signed jerseys available after the game & online. Stay tuned! pic.twitter.com/fPqzypg6jG
The jersey featured the logo for Newton's foundation on the front with the phrases, "Every 1 learns; Every 1 plays; Every 1 gives; Every 1 matters" in jersey's background. Newton attended his first Checkers game, against the Hershey Bears, clad in a personalized version of the jersey. Apparently realizing the theme of the night, the Checkers scored a touchdown but missed the extra point, in their 6-0 win against Hershey.
