Penguins' Bryan Rust gets his own root beer

Pittsburgh-area fans sampled new drink named for forward @NHLdotcom

When you come through in the clutch, it's only a matter of time before they start naming things after you.

That's how Pittsburgh Penguins forward Bryan Rust got a root beer named after him.

The brain-child of PLB Sports, which brought the world Flutie Flakes and Gronk's Hot Sauce, among other athlete-related food products, teamed up with Paul's Beverages and Giant Eagle stores to create Rusty's Old Fashioned Root Beer.

Friday afternoon Rust introduced the new drink and signed autographs for fans at the Seven Fields, Pa., Giant Eagle location.

The CEO of PLB Sports, Ty Ballou, says he liked the alliteration in the product name and that Rust is a big fan of root beer. The soft drink will be sold in 12 oz. single bottles for $1.79 each.

Rust scored two goals in Game 7 of the 2016 Eastern Conference Final to help the Penguins beat the Tampa Bay Lightning 2-1 last season. He had a total of six goals and three assists while quenching Penguins fans' thirst for another Cup.
