BOSTON -- Patrice Bergeron is progressing well from the rib and sternoclavicular injuries the Boston Bruins center sustained on Nov. 16.

"I talked to him this morning, seemed to be in good spirits. Feeling better," coach Bruce Cassidy said after practice on Wednesday. "What does that mean? I don't know. Until he gets on the ice and is skating [you don't know]. But that's encouraging."
Bergeron said he was feeling better during an appearance Tuesday at the Champions for Children's gala at the Seaport World Trade Center where teammate David Pastrnak was being honored.
"So I'm trying to go through the process and take it a day at a time and do what's asked of me to do to get better. So far, so good," Bergeron said, according to WEEI.com.
Cassidy said the fact that Bergeron is feeling better is good news.
"I don't want to get too excited until he's out there until he's out there [skating with] that group, but that helps," Cassidy said.
Bergeron, who has 26 points (nine goals, 17 assists) in 19 games, sustained the injury 12 days ago against the Dallas Stars. He was supposed to be re-evaluated in four weeks. Four weeks from the injury would be Dec. 14.
The Bruins did make a couple of moves to shore up their forward group Wednesday.
Ryan Donato was recalled from Providence of the American Hockey League. Donato, who played primarily on the wing, had one goal in 11 NHL games this season before he was sent down on Nov. 1. He had nine points (five goals, four assists) in 10 games with Providence.
They also brought in Jan Kovar, who has been with Providence on a PTO. Boston wants to get a look at the Czech center, who had 10 points (four goals, six assists) in 12 AHL games. Kovar, 28, spent the past five seasons with Metallurg Magnitogorsk of the Kontinental Hockey League.
