Video tributes
for players returning to their former cities are
all the rage in the NHL
. The one the St. Louis Blues made for David Backes had a little something extra.

The Blues paid tribute to Backes, their former captain and a member of the team for 10 seasons, and his wife Kelly for their contributions to the St. Louis community.

Backes signed with the Bruins in the offseason, and for his first trip back to his former home, with Kelly and their daughter Stella in the crowd, the Blues held their annual Barkin' For The Blues pet adoption event to benefit
Five Acres Animal Shelter
and Stray Rescue in St. Charles, Mo.

The organization works with
Athletes for Animals
, which Kelly and David founded in 2013 as part of their more than 10 years of experience in animal welfare and rescue work. Athletes for Animals provides education and awareness of best practices in pet adoption and care.
So not only did Backes and his family get a warm welcome, they got some support for their worthy (and adorable) cause.
