Oettinger helps Stars earn home shootout victory

Jake Oettinger made 32 saves for the Dallas Stars, who recovered for a 3-2 shootout win against the Anaheim Ducks at American Airlines Center in Dallas on Monday.

Nils Lundkvist and Roope Hintz scored for Dallas (29-13-10), which had lost three in a row, all in overtime.
Jamie Benn,
who played his 1,000th NHL game
, all with the Stars, was called for high-sticking in overtime on Ducks defenseman John Klingberg, who played with Benn in Dallas from 2014-22.
"I thought he dove, to be honest," Benn joked. "Obviously, [Klingberg] hasn't gained any more weight than he had here, but our group did a great job of killing that off, almost ended it in the 4-on-3 there and found a way to get it done in the shootout."

Jakob Silfverberg and Adam Henrique scored, and John Gibson made 39 saves for Anaheim (16-29-6), which had won three in a row.
Silfverberg cut it to 2-1 at 11:04 of the third period when he redirected in a point shot from Kevin Shattenkirk on a power play.
Henrique then tied it 2-2 at 12:30 with a wrist shot blocker side from the edge of the left face-off circle off a pass from Trevor Zegras.
"In the third period, we did a way better job with the puck," Silfverberg said. "We got the one point tonight, played an OK game, we've just got to keep pushing it."

Lundkvist gave the Stars a 1-0 lead at 8:08 of the first period, skating down the right wing and finishing a backdoor pass from Radek Faksa.
"When Nils is moving his feet, the rest of the things take care of themselves," Dallas coach Peter DeBoer said. "You can see when he's fresh, he's a different player."
Hintz made it 2-0 at 7:35 of the second period. Denis Gurianov won a battle along the left boards and sent a cross-crease pass to Hintz, who chipped the puck in near the right post.
"I think the chances we gave them are mostly our mistakes," Silfverberg said. "They weren't doing anything super special out there."

Mason Marchment had an opportunity to extend the lead at 12:38 of the second, but as he cut back across the crease, his chance at the right post was stopped by the glove of Gibson. Faksa then had two rebound chances, but again Gibson made the saves with his left pad while he was still laying on the ice.
"He was really good," Silfverberg said. "He made some highlight saves, that's for sure. He's our star player and he showed that tonight. He's been terrific for us. It's good to see that he's locked in."
Ducks forward Troy Terry left the game after he sustained an upper-body injury late in the first period.
"Everyone that played stepped up and did a good job," Silfverberg said. "We got one point tonight. We'll take that and move on to Chicago tomorrow."
