ANA SSF Eakins

With the NHL pausing the 2019-20 regular season on March 12 due to the concerns surrounding the coronavirus, NHL.com is taking stock of each of the League's 31 teams.

Today, a snapshot of the Anaheim Ducks at the pause:

Anaheim Ducks

Record: 29-33-9, 67 points

Playoff position:11 points behind Nashville Predators and Vancouver Canucks for second wild card into Stanley Cup Playoffs from Western Conference

The Ducks were expected to be in rebuilding mode after entering the season with a new coach and a young roster. So it's no surprise that they likely will miss the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the second straight season.

Dallas Eakins was hired as coach June 17 and guided the Ducks to three straight wins to begin the season and a 9-6-0 record in their first 15 games. However, they had eight wins in their next 31 games (8-18-5), mostly because of poor offensive production that has plagued them most of the season. The Ducks rank 29th in the NHL in goals per game (2.56). They have been shut out five times and have scored two goals or fewer in regulation 39 times in 71 games.

Anaheim has three players with at least 42 points (forwards Adam Henrique, 43, and Rickard Rakell and Ryan Getzlaf, 42 each) and two with at least 21 goals (Henrique, 26; Jakob Silfverberg, 21). Rookies Sam Steel (22 points in 65 games) and Max Comtois (11 points in 29 games) have underperformed, as have second-year players Troy Terry (15 points in 47 games) and Max Jones (12 points in 59 games).

In addition to their lack of scoring depth, special teams have hurt the Ducks, who rank 30th in the NHL on the power play (14.7 percent) and 26th on the penalty kill (77.0 percent).

Their goaltending has been a bright spot. John Gibson (3.00 goals-against average, .904 save percentage) and Ryan Miller (3.10 GAA, .907 save percentage) have kept the low-scoring Ducks in almost every game.

Anaheim has played better recently with three wins in its past five games (3-1-1) and at least one point in seven of its past 10 games (5-3-2).
