PIECE OF HISTORY

  • Gavin McKenna (2026) becomes the second player in NHL history to have their first point (assist) come on a goal scored by a former first overall pick (John Tavares - 2009) and have their first career NHL goal assisted by a former first overall pick (Auston Matthews - 2016) as a first overall pick themselves. The only other player to have this occur was Steven Stamkos (2008 – Assisted Vincent Lecavalier for his first point and then had his first goal assisted by Vincent Lecavalier) who skated in tonight’s game for the Nashville Predators (Per - NHL Stats).
