The Toronto Maple Leafs announced today that the hockey club has acquired forwards Kirill Marchenko and Miles Wood, as well as goaltender Elvis Merzļikins, from the Columbus Blue Jackets in exchange for defenceman Emil Andrae, forwards Matthew Knies and Steven Lorentz, as well as a second-round selection in the 2027 NHL Draft.
The Blue Jackets are retaining 18 percent of Merzļikins’ salary. The second-round selection was originally acquired by Toronto in a trade with Seattle on March 6, 2026, and will be the later selection of the Winnipeg or Columbus 2027 second-round picks
Marchenko, 26, recorded 27 goals and 40 assists in 76 games with the Blue Jackets in 2025-26. The Barnaul, Russia native has appeared in 292 career NHL games with Columbus, registering 208 points (102 goals, 106 assists).
Internationally, Marchenko has represented Russia at the junior levels, capturing silver at the 2020 IIHF World Junior Championship, as well as bronze at the 2019 IIHF World Junior Championship. He was named a top three player for Russia at the 2018 IIHF World U18 Championships.
Marchenko was originally selected by Columbus in the second round (49th overall) of the 2018 NHL Draft.
Wood, 31, appeared in 54 games for the Blue Jackets last season and recorded 14 points (eight goals, six assists). He has appeared in 567 career NHL games between Columbus, Colorado and New Jersey, and recorded 196 points (99 goals, 97 assists), while adding five goals in 25 career Stanley Cup playoff games.
Internationally, Wood represented the United States at both the 2016 IIHF World Championship and the 2015 IIHF World Junior Championship.
Wood was originally selected by New Jersey in the fourth round (100th overall) of the 2013 NHL Draft.
Merzļikins, 32, appeared in 30 games for Columbus in 2025-26, posting a 14-11-3 record with a 3.40 goals-against average and .883 save percentage. In 274 career regular season appearances, all with Columbus, the Riga, Latvia native has posted a 108-111-38 record with a 3.22 goals-against average and a .900 save percentage. He has made two career Stanley Cup playoff appearances and is 1-1 with a 1.96 goals-against average and a .946 save percentage. He was named to the NHL’s All-Rookie Team for the 2019-20 season.
He has represented Latvia at multiple levels, most recently at the 2026 Winter Olympic Games. He was named a World Championship Top 3 Player on Team at three consecutive tournaments (2016, 2017, 2018).
Merzļikins was originally selected by Columbus in the third round (76th overall) of the 2014 NHL Draft.
