Seattle Kraken Sign Joey Daccord to a Two-Year Contract

SEATTLE, Wash. - June 30, 2023 -Today, the Seattle Kraken (@SeattleKraken) announced that they have signed goaltender Joey Daccord to a two-year contract ($1.2 million AAV).

"Joey had an impressive season with the Coachella Valley Firebirds, playing a significant role in their Calder Cup Finals run, and contributed meaningful minutes with the Kraken," said Seattle Kraken General Manager Ron Francis. "We are excited for him to remain with our organization."

Daccord played in five games for the Kraken during the 2022-23 season, posting a 2-1-1 record with a 3.14 goals-against average and a .900 save percentage. His win total, goals-against average and save percentage were all NHL career bests. The netminder spent the remainder of the 2022-23 season with the Coachella Valley Firebirds - the Kraken's American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate - appearing in 38 games and finishing the regular season with a 26-8-3 record, 2.38 goals-against average, a .918 save percentage and three shutouts. His 38 games and three shutouts were AHL career bests and his goals-against average and save percentage were the second-best marks of his AHL career. Daccord finished the 2022-23 regular season ranked in the top five in the AHL in wins (tied for third), goals-against average (fifth) and save percentage (fifth).

The 26-year-old played in all 26 playoff games for the Firebirds, finishing the postseason with a 15-11 record, 2.22 goals-against average and .926 save percentage, helping Coachella Valley to reach the Calder Cup Finals. Daccord set several AHL playoff records during the Firebirds postseason run, including starts (26), saves (726), minutes played (1,647) and shots faced (823), and his 2.22 goals-against average and .926 save percentage topped all AHL goaltenders that played in at least nine postseason games. He also finished the postseason with three assists, making him both the only netminder to record a point in the 2023 Calder Cup Playoffs and the only goaltender to have three assists in the postseason since 2005, the first year that that stat was tracked.

Daccord, who stands at six-foot-two, 201 pounds, has posted a 3-9-2 record in 19 NHL regular-season games with the Kraken and the Ottawa Senators, registering a 3.64 goals-against average and .884 save percentage in those contests. He has also appeared in 98 AHL regular-season games, posting a 60-27-7 record, which includes four shutouts, a 2.46 goals-against average and a .918 save percentage. In AHL postseason play, Daccord owns an 18-15 record in 33 games, with a 2.41 goals-against average and a .917 save percentage.

Prior to making his professional debut, Daccord played three seasons (2016-17 to 2018-19) of collegiate hockey for the Arizona State Sun Devils (NCAA), finishing his career at ASU with a 32-40-7 record, .913 save percentage and a 3.07 goals-against average. The netminder led all NCAA goaltenders with seven shutouts in 2018-19 en route to being named a finalist for both the Mike Richter Award as the NCAA's top goaltender and the Hobey Baker Award as the NCAA's top men's player. He was originally selected by Ottawa in the seventh round (199th overall) of the 2015 NHL Draft and became the first player in ASU history to sign an NHL contract when he did so with the Senators on April 1, 2019.
