Former Kings forwards Derek Armstrong and Brad Smyth will lead the effort which will feature players ages 6-16. Armstrong and Smyth both played for the Kings, and the Ottawa natives have been best friends since they were 14 years old. In 2000 they were teammates and Calder Cup Champions with the Hartford Wolfpack, and both are also current NHL broadcasters with Armstrong appearing on Bally Sports West and Smyth on Ottawa Senators radio broadcasts.
Armstrong and Smyth will lead instruction in Mexico and be supported by the LA Kings Hockey Development Department. Participants from the Mexico City Jr. Kings are expected to be in attendance though it is not exclusive to the club.
The three-day camp will culminate with a fun scrimmage on November 14 at the Centro Commercial Sante Fe ice rink.
The Kings host the Montreal Canadiens tomorrow, Saturday, at 1 p.m. as part of the club's current five-game homestand. The Kings on Saturday will also celebrate Día De Los Muertos Night presented by Delta Air Lines. Kings fans at the game will receive a special Tote Bag presented by Delta Air Line, and a special LA Kings-themed Día De Los Muertos bobblehead is available for special ticket package buyers.
