Back home after a three-game road trip, the Kings faced off against the Columbus Blue Jackets at Crypto.com Arena in their final game this season versus the Eastern Conference. Following a lopsided 9-3 defeat to the Colorado Avalanche on Wednesday night, the Kings quickly put that behind them jumped out to an early lead.
Just 1:41 into the first period, Dustin Brown opened the game's scoring with a blocker-side wrist shot, beating Blue Jackets goalie Elvis Merzlikins on a two-on-one. Not more than six minuets later, Phillip Danault, #24 scored his 24th goal of the season on a beautiful tic-tac-toe play with his linemates Trevor Moore and Viktor Arvidsson.
The two first period goals would be all the offense that the Kings needed on this particular night as Jonathan Quick and the team defense in front of him made life hard for the Blue Jackets to generate quality and a quantity of shots on the Kings net. Giving up a mere 22 shots on goal, the Kings blocked a season-high 28 Blue Jackets shots and surrendered just one goal.
