WINNIPEG -Talk about making a first impression.
Goaltender Laurent Brossoit made 38 saves, including a highlight reel glove save on a Ryan Murphy blast in the third period, to help the Winnipeg Jets to a 2-1 preseason win over the Minnesota Wild on Monday.
Brossoit, who signed a one-year contract on July 1, trains with Connor Hellebuyck at the Net 360 Camp in Kelowna, and looked every bit as comfortable as his training partner in the Jets net in the preseason opener.
"Anytime you come into preseason, especially with a new organization, it's nice to get a good win and a good feeling having getting a lot of rubber," said Brossoit. "I felt the puck a lot, so it was definitely a nice feeling to come in and make an impression like that."

Marko Dano and Joe Morrow would provide the offence for the Jets, who move to 1-0-0 in the preseason.
Head coach Paul Maurice liked what he saw from Brossoit in his first action in Jets colours.
"He looked today the way we found him in the first two days," Maurice said of Brossoit. "He works hard in the net, and competes hard in the net to fight through traffic to find those - on the glove save - but on others too. He's a fit and very strong man."

Dano opened the scoring for the Jets thanks to some hard work from linemate Brendan Lemieux. Lemieux drove wide down the right wing and held off Wild defenceman Greg Pateryn, and while Lemieux lost control of the puck, it bounced in front to Dano. He made no mistake, lifting it over Andrew Hammond's pad 13:12 into the first period.
"I try to make that a staple of my game, taking pucks to the net and being that power forward," said Lemieux, who finished with 11:13 of ice time and a fighting major along with his assist. "I got a bounce, (Dano) did a great job getting to the net and Sami (Niku) made a great breakout pass there."
Brossoit had 14 saves in the first 20 minutes, and made sure things stayed scoreless in the second, when he turned away Wild forward Justin Kloos on his second breakaway of the game.
Despite Brossoit's stellar play in goal, the slim 1-0 lead wouldn't last.
Matt Hendricks flipped home a loose puck from just outside the crease on Brossoit's stick side, as the Jets goaltender battled with some traffic in front.
Brossoit was back on his game quickly though, stopping a Jordan Greenway attempt just 1:49 after the equalizer, and robbing a Ryan Murphy one-timer blast from the top of the circle, drawing a big ovation from the crowd inside Bell MTS Place.
"That's why we play. That's why us goaltenders keep coming back to the rink," Brossoit said of the crowd reaction.
"Anytime you come into unfamiliar territory you want to make a good first impression, and instill a bit of confidence in yourself and with the team as you try to facilitate a unity."

The Jets rewarded Brossoit by taking the lead back with just over eight minutes left in regulation. Entering the zone, Patrik Laine found Joe Morrow who was joining the rush from the back end. Morrow's wrist shot went off the bar and in, beating Hammond high on the stick side.
With no video review in the preseason, the officials couldn't take another look at if the puck crossed the line or not. But Morrow was quick with a response postgame.
"Was it on the scoresheet? I haven't seen the video yet, but I'm pretty sure that everybody says it didn't go in," he said with a grin. "I just tried to shoot it hard so nobody could see it."
Mission accomplished.
The Jets will practice for a couple days before the preseason schedule picks up, with the team playing three sets of back-to-backs over the course of eight days. The first of those games comes Thursday night in Edmonton against the Oilers.
