Graphic designer Charmi Sheth still remembers the conversation that led to her working on the biggest project of her young career.
That conversation was between her and True North Sports + Entertainment's Director of Creative, Josh Dudych. He was asking her to help with the logo design and overall branding for the team's first ever South Asian Heritage Night.
"Since I was five or six I've been into drawing, sketching, and painting, everything," said the 20-year-old. "I was very excited because it was for South Asia."
She comes by her talent, honestly. Her father is also a graphic designer, and many of her earliest memories of sketching have him involved.
"When I was three, I used to sit in my dad's office," she said. "I learned a lot from him too. I am really good with colours and typography."

Her influence is seen throughout the final project, which combines her vision with that of Dudych and Waseem Shaikh - the Creative Director at Ethnicity Matters (an agency that specializes in leading engagement with cultural communities in meaningful and impactful ways).
And the logo is exactly that.
Some of Sheth's work can be seen inside the navy ring of the Jets logo, as motifs inspired by Henna patterning and Bandhani designs surround the traditional Jet and red maple leaf that fans are used to seeing.
Sheth's background in Henna tattooing was part of the inspiration for those designs. Her wish to reflect numerous types of textiles from different South Asian areas can also be seen in the background imagery and colour themed elements, including Phulkari, Bandhani, and Saree. The patterns and colours bring the vibrancy and diversity of the many cultures of the region to life.
They'll be shown prominently inside Canada Life Centre and as borders on graphics and other elements on the digital side.
"I came up with two or three ideas and sent it to Josh," Sheth said. "He was super supportive on each and every stage, he motivated me and supported me to get the best out of me. He gave really detailed feedback for everything. That helped a lot with my design."
The game on February 11 between the Winnipeg Jets and Chicago Blackhawks will be the culmination of a lot of hard work, revisions, and meetings, but Sheth knows it'll be worth every second when she sees it on display in a National Hockey League arena.
"I'm so excited. I can't express that. It really means a lot to me," she said. "I gave my best because Josh helped me a lot."
