The New York Islanders' four-game winning streak came to an end at the hands of the Colorado Avalanche in a 4-1 loss on Sunday night at Ball Arena.
The 4-1 final doesn’t tell the full story, as it was a tight, hard-fought battle for most of the game. Emil Heineman scored for the Islanders but two quick goals in the second period by Ross Colton and Victor Olofsson put Colorado in the driver’s seat. Martin Necas scored an empty-net goal and former Islander Brock Nelson added a tally late in the game . Ilya Sorokin made 24 of 27 saves in the loss, while Scott Wedgewood made 28 of 29 saves in the win.
“Overall, I thought we had a solid game,” Bo Horvat said. “We would have liked to get a point out of it at least or get the win, but we have to take the positives from tonight and move on.”
Although it marked the first loss of the road trip for the Islanders - who are 4-1-0 on the seven-game trip - Head Coach Patrick Roy said his group played some of their best hockey as the Isles went head-to-head against the top team in the NHL.
