Kyle Palmieri Foundation And New York Islanders Host Street Hockey Clinic For Military Families

Kyle Palmieri has always used his platform to support military members and their families.

On Wednesday night, the platform was a literal one, as Palmieri was a special guest coach at a street hockey clinic at took place outside of Northwell Health Ice Center for kids of active duty military members or veterans.

Kids (ages 5-15) of military service members participated in the two hour clinic where Palmieri ran drills, held a Q&A and took pictures with everyone who attended. The clinic gave the children an opportunity to embrace the sport of hockey, make connections with military families, enjoy some time playing hockey and walk away with a signed Palmieri hockey stick – all for free.

“It’s awesome to see the smiles on some of these kids’ faces and give them an opportunity to maybe be introduced to hockey for the first time.” Palmieri said. “It’s super rewarding seeing the kids have fun and enjoy playing.”

Palmieri is no stranger to helping military families, hosting events through the Kyle Palmieri Foundation. In March, Palmieri and his foundation hosted an event at the Lunchbox Brewing Company in Bellmore, NY and he’s hosting a summer BBQ in Greenport on Sunday.

The Kyle Palmieri Foundation began as “Squad 21” in 2016 as a military recognition program and a way to bring active and veteran military members to NHL games. It has evolved into a foundation that gives back to the Long Island community.

On Wednesday, Palmieri, got to do both, giving Long Island’s military families a chance to play a little street hockey with a pro.
