The New York Islanders way has always been an idea; a guiding principle for the organization.
Now it's a street.
New York Islanders Way was unveiled outside of UBS Arena on Thursday morning, as Red Road officially underwent a blue and orange makeover.

"The naming of New York Islanders Way during the Islanders 50th anniversary season is the latest illustration of the great partnership between the Islanders, UBS Arena and the Town of Hempstead," Islanders Co-Owner Jon Ledecky said.
Ledecky was joined by UBS Arena President Kim Stone, Town of Hempstead Supervisor Don Clavin, Council Member Tommy Muscarella and Receiver of Taxes Jeanine C. Driscoll for the announcement. Fans can visit the newly unveiled street sign that runs along the Silver, Diamond and Ruby lots as they approach UBS Arena.
"This is about being a place that people enjoy coming to," Clavin said. "Renaming a road solidifies that relationship with Nassau County, the town of Hempstead and all the New York Islanders."

Stone called the street renaming an important milestone in the evolution of UBS Arena, which is approaching the one-year anniversary of opening on Nov. 20.
"This is a monumental and important milestone in the evolution of the building," Stone said. "We are putting a stamp on this for the community to see and come and enjoy for many generations."
For Ledecky, who has long called the Islanders a community trust, the street renaming also marked further inroads into the team's relationship with the town of Elmont.
"Ownership always wants to be great neighbors and do what's right for the fans," Ledecky said. "We love the community. We respect the community and we always want to be a vaunted and important part of the community."
