Isles Day-to-Day: de Haan placed on, Hickey taken off IR

Calvin de Haan (upper body) was placed on injured reserve on Monday afternoon. The defenseman suffered the injury in overtime of the Islanders 4-3 win over the LA Kings on Saturday night and underwent an MRI on Monday.
"Either way he's going to be out for a little bit, or a lot. We hope for the little," head coach Doug Weight said after Monday's practice before getting the MRI results. "Visually and his reaction didn't look great. He's a big piece of our defense, not just the minutes, but he's having a really good year… He's a great skater, defends hard and is fearless blocking shots."

De Haan has 12 points (1G, 11A) this season and was averaging 18:44 TOI per game, the third most among Islanders blue liners. The 26-year-old is second on the Islanders with 65 blocks this season.
Weight should provide an update on de Haan's condition on Tuesday at the team's optional morning skate.
Thomas Hickey was removed from the team's IR list on Monday, but Weight said he may need to see Hickey go through another practice before inserting him back into the lineup. Hickey missed the last four games with an upper-body injury.
Hickey has five points (1G, 4A) in 21 games this season.
