The National Hockey League announced today that Islanders goaltender Thomas Greiss has been named the First Star of the Week, for the period ending Sunday, March 17.

Greiss, 33, posted a 3-1-0 record with a .959 SV% and a 1.25 GAA in four games last week. He led the NHL in wins (3), shots faced (121) and saves (116) during that span, as the Islanders defeated Columbus, Montreal and Minnesota to climb into first place in the Metropolitan Division.

A native of Fussen, Germany, Greiss posted 31-saves Monday against Columbus for his career-high fifth shutout of the season. He is 5-2-0 over his last seven starts and 22-12-2 this season.
