As part of a new partnership with the Islanders Floorball Program, students from Adelphi University are implementing the sport of floorball into their college course offerings. Sophomores and juniors majoring in Education and Sports Management are taking the curriculum and teaching each other the fundamentals of floorball to add to their repertoire of sports knowledge. Students broke into smaller teams with each team responsible for headlining a certain skill set of offensive attack, defensive strategy, face-off, and stick-handling.
"I think it's always great to add new sports to your playbook," said one sophomore student, "Floorball will hopefully be another advantage I have on my competition in the future when finding a job in the teaching world."
Through this partnership, Adelphi University and the New York Islanders are building opportunities to grow the game of hockey through future teachers and their respective students. "Floorball participation has been exceptional," says Professor Dan Bedard, "We are expecting to start a recreational league on campus soon."
