Vegas suffers 3-2 defeat to San Jose

The Vegas Golden Knights had a seven-game win streak snapped Thursday night as they fell to the San Jose Sharks, 3-2, at T-Mobile Arena.
HOW IT WENT DOWN
Tomas Nosek scored an early goal just 1:34 into the game to start a strong first period for the Golden Knights. Vegas outshot San Jose 13-10 in the first frame, but Nosek's goal was the only one to make it onto the scoreboard. Tomas Hertl leveled the score in the second period to set the stage for a back-and-forth third period. Less than three minutes into the third, Jon Merrill buried his first goal of the season to lift the Golden Knights to a 2-1 lead, but goals from Melker Karlsson and Joonas Donskoi just 39 seconds apart gave the Sharks a 3-2 lead. San Jose held on to win the game despite an overall shots advantage of 38-27 for Vegas.
TURNING POINT
San Jose took a penalty with 3:44 to play and the Golden Knights had a chance to knot the score at 3-3 late in the game. Despite consistent offensive pressure for the remainder of the game, the Golden Knights were unable to beat Martin Jones and time ran out for the home team.

TOP PERFORMERS
Jon Merrill:In his 26th game of the season, Merrill finally hit the back of the net for the first time as he rifled a wrist shot over Jones' left shoulder.
Alex Tuch: Tuch registered an assist on Merrill's goal to tie a franchise record for consecutive games with a point (eight games).
Martin Jones: Jones stopped 36 shots en route to the one-goal win.
