LAST TIME OUT
The Golden Knights defeated the San Jose Sharks, 2-1, in a shootout on Tuesday night at SAP Center. Both goalies held strong in net through the first two periods of the game before Michael Misa broke the deadlock 4:18 into the third period, giving the Sharks a 1-0 edge. Four minutes later, Alexander Holtz evened the score with assists from Tanner Laczynski and Adam Ginning. Matyas Sapovaliv and Braeden Bowman each found the back of the net in the shootout to lift Vegas to the win. Carter Hart earned the exhibition victory in net, saving 28-of-29 shots, plus two of three Sharks attempts in the shootout, for a .966 save percentage.
2025-26 SEASON SERIES
Vegas held a 1-2-0 record during the 2025-26 regular season series with Utah but took their First Round series in the 2026 Stanley Cup Playoffs. The Golden Knights' only regular season win over the Mammoth came on Nov. 20, 2025, with a score of 4-1 at Delta Center. Jack Eichel (2G, 1A), Bowman (1G, 1A), and Shea Theodore (3A) each tallied multi-point nights. Utah took the next two matchups with a 5-1 win on Nov. 24, 2025, and a 4-0 shutout on March 19, 2026.
The Golden Knights advanced to the Second Round of the 2026 Stanley Cup Playoffs after a six-game battle against the Mammoth. Vegas took a 1-0 series lead after winning Game 1, 4-2, before falling in Games 2 and 3. The Golden Knights bounced back with three-straight wins to claim the series. Eichel led the club with nine points (1G, 8A) in the series against Utah, followed by Mitch Marner with seven points (2G, 5A) and Ivan Barbashev with six points (2G, 4A).
KEYS TO THE GAME
Swing of Things: General Manager Kelly McCrimmon stated that in the two home preseason games, the Golden Knights will dress a lineup that closely resembles what the regular season could look like. With Vegas regulars returning to action, Thursday's game is a good opportunity for the veterans to get back into the swing of things and start forming chemistry with the offseason additions.
First Glance: With Opening Knight less than a week away, Head Coach Ryan Craig will get the opportunity to test different line combinations and iron out any kinks prior to Tuesday. Craig stated that as the group becomes closer, the structure starts to build, and it becomes second nature for the team to develop from last season's success.
