HOW IT WENT DOWN
Brock Boeser opened the scoring 9:46 into the game to get Vancouver on the board first. But with six minutes to go in the frame, William Carrier came through with his fifth goal of the season to tie the score at 1-1. Max Pacioretty extended his point streak to seven games with a second period goal to put the Golden Knights ahead 2-1. Early in the third, Pacioretty wasted little time in finding the back of the net again as he buried his second goal of the game 1:13 into the frame. An answer from Alexander Edler brought the Canucks back to within a goal and the game-tying strike came from Boeser only 6:01 later. In the midst of a penalty kill, Reilly Smith set up William Karlsson for a shorthanded goal to put the Golden Knights on top 4-3 as the third period began to dwindle down.
TURNING POINT
Vegas was on a crucial penalty kill in the late stage of the third period when Smith and Karlsson stormed into the Vancouver zone. Smith waited until the right moment before slipping a pass to Karlsson at the right post. Karlsson deposited the puck behind Jacob Markstrom to net the game-winning goal.
