Today, Philadelphia Flyers forward Travis Konecny and Flyers Charities announced the launch of TK-O Cancer, Konecny’s new personal initiative founded to support local nonprofit organizations that provide direct relief to pediatric cancer patients and their families. Through TK-O Cancer, Konecny will work in close collaboration with Flyers Charities to further its mission of supporting families affected by cancer throughout the Greater Philadelphia region.
“Philadelphia has been home for the last decade, and this city has given my family and me more than I could ever put into words,” said Konecny. “Being a part of this team is about more than what happens on the ice. It’s about using the platform we have to help make a lasting difference in the community that has supported me every step of the way. Karly and I have seen firsthand the incredible impact Flyers Charities has on families across our region, and through TK-O Cancer, we want to stand with families facing an incredibly difficult time in their lives and remind them they are not alone in the fight. I’m proud to work alongside Flyers Charities as we do everything we can to help knock out pediatric cancer in our community.”
As part of today’s launch, Flyers Charities has announced that one lucky recipient of this season’s Cancer Outreach & Awareness Grant will be awarded the inaugural TK-O Cancer Pediatric Cancer Grant, which will provide funding support for pediatric cancer programming to one 501 (c)(3) organization based in the Greater Philadelphia region. Konecny will present the grant to the chosen recipient during the first half of the upcoming Flyers season.
To further TK-O Cancer’s mission of uplifting families battling pediatric cancer, this season, Konecny will have a heavier involvement with several of Flyers Charities’ marquee cancer-focused initiatives, including Hockey Fights Cancer, Building Hope For Kids, and more. Additionally, the Flyers have dropped an exclusive apparel line designed in partnership with Konecny with a portion of proceeds benefitting TK-O Cancer. Merchandise is available online now and will be at Xfinity Mobile Arena’s OutPhitters team store at Flyers home games this season.
“It has always been the Flyers way to give back to the community in which we play, so it came as no surprise when Travis approached us about doing more to make an impact off the ice,” said President of the Flyers Charities Board and Flyers Alternate Governor Blair Listino. “Supporting families impacted by cancer has been a key pillar of Flyers Charities since its inception over 50 years ago, and we are proud to support Travis’ use of his platform for such a deserving cause in this next chapter of his journey here in Philadelphia.”
