The Philadelphia Flyers lost in overtime to the New York Rangers, 3-2, at the Wells Fargo Center on Wednesday night. Vladimir Tarasenko (13th) won the game at 3:32 of overtime, assisted by Filip Chytil and Braden Schneider.

An early first period tic-tac-toe power play goal by Mika Zibanejad (32nd) at 2:51 was answered by an Owen Tippett power play tally (18th) directly off an Adam Fox giveaway at 15:05. In a well-played second period, Scott Laughton (14th) gave Philadelphia a 2-1 lead at 11:16. A Chris Kreider deflection goal (26th) at 10:33 of the third period forged a 2-2 tie,
Carter Hart stopped 22 of 25 shots for Philadelphia. Igor Sheshterkin denied 25 of 27 for the Rangers.
The Flyers went 1-for-3 on the power play. The Rangers were 1-for-1.

TURNING POINT
The trio of Zibanejad, Trocheck and Fox controlled the puck for the first 90 seconds of OT. At 3:32., Tarasenko gained the blueline, moved left and fired a shot past Hart to end the game.
MELTZER'S TAKE
1) The Rangers went on the power play at 2:35. Laughton was called for slashing. New York made quick work of the power play on a three-way passing sequence that ended with Zibanejad burying a one-time from the slot. The assists went to Vladimir Tarasenko and Artemi Panarin at 2:51.
Elliot Desnoyers landed a heavy hit behind the New York net on the next shift after the Zibanejad goal.
Panarin was called for hooking Provorov at 4:02. The Flyers generated a lot of puck movement but no shots on goal. The closest was a Ristolainen point shot that missed the net with some traffic in front.

New York had four of the game's first five shots on goal and five of the first seven. Thereafter, the Flyers began to generate more attacking opportunities.
The Flyers went back to the power play at 10:31. Barclay Goodrow was called for hooking. Once again, the Flyers generated a lot of puck movement but no traffic of shots. Laughton stepped out in front for a chance as the power play expired.
York took the puck hard to the net and was tripped by Jacob Trouba at 14:40. The Flyers went on their third power play of the opening period. The Flyers tied the game at 15:05. Fox turned the puck over directly onto the stick of TIppett, who fired the puck from the right slot past Sheshterkin. The goal was unassisted.
2) Hart came up big several times in the opening 10 minutes of first period on difficult chances to keep the Flyers in the game until the team got going. First period shots on goal were 10-9 Flyers. Shot attempts were 14-13 Flyers. Scoring chances were 7-7 with a 4-2 high-danger edge to the Flyers. Faceoffs were 8-6 Rangers.
3) York made a good one-on-one defensive play against Panarin in the opening minute of the second period. Hart made a dynamic save on Kaapo Kakko to keep the game tied.
Frost had a good scoring chance and then Tippett had an even better one of the rebound at 4:35 but hit the post.
There was a great end-to-end sequence with a chance for Vincent Trocheck and one end Tippett at the other. Shots were 4-3 Flyers through 10 minutes.
Wade Allison hit the post at the 11:36 mark. At 9:30, a three-way-passing sequence from Frost to Farabee to Tippett produced an open look from the right slot for Tippett but he missed the net. At 10:19, Hayes deflected a puck on net from in close.
The Flyers took a 2-1 lead at 11:16. Laughton gathered a puck in deep and sent it out to Hayes. Getting the puck back, Laughton skated laterally in front of the goal line and chipped a nice shot over Shesterkin. Hayes received the lone assist.
At 14:47, Hart was tested by Kreider. The Flyers' netminder made the save with no rebound. Hart made another quality save, this time on Lafreniere, at 18:51.
4) This was another solidly played period by the Flyers. The Rangers continued to turn over pucks. Tippett in particular was buzzing all period; in fact, he could have had a hat trick by the end of the second period. Shots on goal were 10-9 Flyers. Shot attempts were 20-15 Flyers. Scoring chances were 12-9 Flyers. High-danger chances were 8-2 Flyers. Faceoffs through two periods were 19-13 Flyers.
5) Hart stopped a Zibanejad tip-in on net in the opening 90 seconds of the third period. A Goodrow shot hit the post. Philly survived a dangerous giveaway by Farabee. At 5:39, Hart denied a Lafreniere one-time from the right circle.
The Rangers had the territorial edge but shots on goal were just 2-2 through 14:13.
Frost created a scoring chance for TIppett -- shot high and wide -- and Farabee forechecked well on another good shift for that line. At the other end, Trocheck missed the net from the low slot.
New York knotted the game at 2-2 at 10:33. Kreider deflected home a Tarasenko shot. The other assist went to Trocheck.
Filip Chytil's generated a scramble around Hart's net and a lengthy possession shift. Shot were 4-4 through 14 minutes.
At 14;30, Allison deflected a Provorov shot on net from the mid slot.
The Flyers iced the puck with 3:23 on the clock. Hayes lost the ensuing faceoff but the Flyers defended well and Blueshirts brought a clearned puck back into the attack zone offside.
Philly continued to show active sticks. Cates and Frost broke up plays on successive shifts.
Tippett blasted a shot on net in the waning seconds of regulation. Sheshterkin turned it aside.
Third period shots on goal were 7-6 Flyers (27-24 Flyers through regulation. Shot attempts were 14-11 Rangers. Scoring chances were 5-3 Rangers with a 3-1 high-danger edge to New York.
