After clearing waivers earlier today, Joseph Gambardella was assigned to the Utica Comets of the American Hockey League. Gambardella signed as a free agent with the Devils franchise on July 29, 2021. The 27-year-old center spent the last five seasons in the Edmonton Oilers franchise, mostly with the team's AHL affiliate, the Bakersfield Condors.
Utica started its training camp for the 2021-22 season on Monday with 18 players: two goaltenders, four defensemen, and 12 forwards. Since the start of camp, forwards Ryan Schmelzer, Nate Schnarr, and Brian Flynn and defensemen Robbie Russo, Michael Vukojevic, and Jeremy Groleau have joined the Comets from the Devils training camp.
