On Friday, Nov. 24, Abdiel Collazo was named the Devils' honorary Hockey Fights Cancer Coach for a Day prior to the club's matchup with the Vancouver Canucks.
Collazo, 8, of Perth Amboy, was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia in June 2013. He received treatment at the Valerie Fund Children's Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders at Children's Hospital of New Jersey at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center, an RWJBarnabas Health facility. He has been in remission for nearly two years.
Collazo was an active participant in New Jersey's morning skate Friday, drawing up plays, meeting the team and speaking to the media alongside Devils coach John Hynes.
