The Devils put on their workboots, as Adam Henrique affectionately calls them, for practice again today. The focus was on puck battles in the defensive zone, transitional breakouts and more special teams.
As I wrote in
yesterday's blog post
, the team was happy with the majority of their game against Tampa, but was obviously disappointed in the result. The takeaway is knowing that if they can play all three periods like they played the first on Saturday night, they will give themselves a chance to win every game and that's what they want.

Heading into their game against Anaheim in the home opener tomorrow, the Devils hope to put it all together and earn their first win of the season. Head coach John Hynes knows it won't happen without consistent effort to aggressively pursue the puck.
"When we compete hard on the puck, we're a very good team. We're not a team that can be light on the puck because we don't play with it enough and we're not built like that. We need to make sure we have it and if you look at our preseason games when we were hard and competitive and we had the puck a lot, we were a good offensive team and played a good territory game. When we were light on the puck, it wasn't good."

Fan Fest starts at 3:30 p.m. on Championship Plaza with the Red Carpet Arrivals starting at 4 p.m. A little birdie also told me to be in my seat by 6:45 p.m. to catch the entire pregame presentation, so I'm passing that on to you as well.
Hope to see you there!
