The Devils lost, 4-1, in Pittsburgh tonight with the lone goal coming from Kyle Palmieri. Here's what we learned:
1) Miles Wood doesn't like it when you elbow his teammates. He went after Ian Cole for connecting with Beau Bennett in the crease, but ended up dropping the mitts with Cole's defensive partner, Steve Olesky, in his first hockey fight. Post-game, he said it was fun in the moment, but he has a lot more respect for fighters now. Wood said he'd always stick up for his teammates, but doesn't anticipate fighting becoming a prominent part of his game.

2) The Devils struggled on both ends of the ice in terms of shots. They earned only 24, including just two in the first period, while allowing 39.
3) This was a physical matchup featuring 37 hits for the Devils, including five apiece from Wood and Vern Fiddler, and four from Seth Helgeson.
The Devils, as well as the rest of the league, will have the next three days off to celebrate the holidays with their families. They will resume play on Tuesday, December 27, when they host Pittsburgh at The Rock.
