Daws Prospect Feature2568x1444

For goaltender Nico Daws, being a part of the Devils organization is being a part of a franchise with a strong history of net minders.
"It's intimidating looking at the list of goalies that have played here," Daws said. "Martin Brodeur was one of my favorites as a kid."
Now Daws has the opportunity to fight for a roster spot, and the opportunity to leave his own mark on the Devils franchise.
"My goal is to win a Stanley Cup, at least one. And that's something that I'm hoping I can do here," Daws said. "I'm a hard worker but overall I can help the team win. As a goalie you don't need to steal the show every night, but you need to be able to help the team win and make key saves. I hope (Devils management and coaches) can see that for my game."

The Devils 2020 Third-Round draft pick recently completed his first season of professional hockey in Germany where he played for ERC Ingolstadt in the top German division. Throughout the experience, the 20-year-old goaltender was immersed in the ins and outs of hockey at the highest levels.
"It was a very different perspective on the game … just to learn what it's like to practice like a pro, to even live on your own and cook your own meals," Daws explained about the differences. "Professional (hockey) they all practice hard. They work out hard, they play hard in games, there's no off-days for anybody and it's a big step for me."
Since his return from Europe, Daws has worked hard in the off-season to prepare for his first camp with the Devils. He wants to give himself the best possible to chance to make the Devils roster while impressing the management and coaching staffs.
"Just trying to round up my game, making sure everything's crisp and ready to go for camp," Daws said. "(I've worked on) lateral speed. Obviously it's a big thing as a goalie … try to get across the net quicker and move around as fast as possible."
The six-foot-four goaltender already brings size to the position and paired with his goals to become quicker, this will allow the net minder to take his game to the next level. Daws is focused in with the Devils staff to continue his progress from this last season.
"It's awesome. I get treated like a real pro and to have all the tools around you, and all the people around you that can help you get to where you want to go, it's been really cool so far."
