Devils prospect Luke Hughes will captain the U.S. National Junior Team at the 2023 IIHF World Junior Championship. Hughes, who the Devils drafted fourth-overall in 2021, is playing for his third USA team over the last year. The defenseman played in the 2022 World Juniors Championship and the 2022 Men's World Championship.
At the 2022 World Junior Championship, Hughes had one goal and five assists through five games played. At the Men's World Championship, Hughes had one goal and three assists through ten games played.
In his second season with the University of Michigan, where Hughes wears an 'A', the defenseman has three goals and 15 assists through 20 games.
Hughes is one of two Devils prospects representing Team USA as 2022 46th overall pick Seamus Casey also made the U.S. National Junior Team. The 2023 edition of the IIHF World Junior Championship kicks off on Dec. 26. Team USA will take on Latvia in their first game on the tournament's opening day.
