The Devils practiced Friday afternoon at the RWJ Barnabas Health Hockey House.
Center Jack Hughes took part in his fourth consecutive practice. Meanwhile, goaltenders Mackenzie Blackwood (inconclusive COVID-19 test) and Jonathan Bernier (maintenance day) were not on the ice. Nor was forward Miles Wood (maintenance).
Defenseman Ty Smith and forward Tyce Thompson skated on his own prior to team practice.
"I don't really like where we're at in the health category," head coach Lindy Ruff said. "Hoping that we can get through. You take two of our defensemen, you take Miles, you look at Jack being out of the lineup. These last few games we were taking some high-quality NHL players for us out of the lineup that weren't going to be able to play.
"Jack right now looks like he is going to be fine. That's a plus for us. And we're hoping we get good news on the other guys and they progress faster than we thought."
