HFC Bennett (2)

On Friday, November 23, the Devils hosted their annual Hockey Fights Cancer day when they faced off against the New York Islanders at 4 p.m. Prudential Center turned lavender for the day to support the cause and for life-long Devils fan Bennett Burgida, it was a very special day.

Bennett is an 11-year-old Lymphoma survivor from Englewood, New Jersey, who is a defenseman on his travel hockey team. He was named the Honorary Coach of the Day for the Devils Hockey Fights Cancer day. With that, he started his day by having lunch with Ken Daneyko and Chico Resch.

The team gave Bennet his very own Hockey Fights Cancer customized jersey and a stick signed by his favorite player and Devils captain Andy Greene.

After lunch, Bennett joined Devils head coach John Hynes when he addressed the media prior to the game. He answered a few questions before Hynes talked about the game.

Prior to warm-ups, Bennett stood outside of the locker room and was able to fist bump the players as they headed out to the ice in their lavender Hockey Fights Cancer jerseys.

Once the team was on the ice for warm-ups, Bennett got to spend some time on the bench, and afterwards, headed into the locker room to read the starting lineup to the team.
