The chants of 'Marty's better! Marty's better!' rained down at Continental Airlines Arena on this day in 2003.

Martin Brodeur was on the verge of a second consecutive shutout in the Stanley Cup Final.

Anaheim's J.S. Giguere had been on a remarkable run in the post-season with his Anaheim Ducks, but he had now run into the greatest of all time, Martin Brodeur.

The Devils, leading the Anaheim Ducks 3-0 as the clock struck zero.

It was a second consecutive shutout for Brodeur, and a 2-0 series lead over Anaheim.

Brodeur only faced 16 shots, including just two in the second period.

The victory marked a 19th career post-season shutout for Brodeur and it was also his sixth shutout that playoff season, tying Dominik Hasek's record of six shutouts in a single playoff year from 2002.

The accolades for Brodeur did not stop there. He also became the first goalie in 51 years to start the Stanley Cup final with consecutive shutouts. Toronto's Frank McCool has three straight shutouts to start the 1945 final against the Detroit Red Wings.

"It's great," he said after the game. "It's kind of hard for me to realize it. We're here on a mission to try to be successful in these playoffs and definitely, I've got to give a lot of credit in the way the guys played in front of me. I think any kind of shutout you make, it's really because of the team in front of you. You can't do everything by yourself. Definitely these guys, that's as good a defensive game they've played. You've got to be really excited about being able to start the series with confidence."
