Blog Worlds Day 3 Tennyson

Sunday featured a full slate of games from Devils players participating in the 2021 IIHF World Championship. All six Devils taking part in the international tournament suited up for their respective countries. Here's a recap of those contests. And all six Devils players were victorious.

SWITZERLAND 1, DENMARK 0
Switzerland: Nico Hischier, Jonas Siegenthaler
Nico Hischier made a remarkable pass play followed by a filthy finish from linemate Timo Meier for a first-period goal for Switzerland against Denmark. The goal would stand as the Swiss triumphed, 1-0.
Swiss goaltender Reto Berra only made four saves to record the victory as Switzerland improved to 2-0-0-0 in the tournament.
To go along with his helper, Hischier also had two shots, a plus-1 and 16:47 minutes of ice time. Defenseman Jonas Siegenthaler had one shot, a plus-1 and 17:25 minutes of play.

USA 5, CANADA 1
USA: Matt Tennyson, Matt Hellickson, Matty Beniers (prospect)
Canada: Owen Power (prospect)
Devils defenseman Matt Tennyson scored his first goal of the WC to help USA defeateCanada, 5-1. USA improved to 1-0-0-1 in the tournament while Canada dropped to 0-0-0-2.
Tennyson, whose goal was the final one scored in the game, also finished the game with two shots, two penalty minutes, a plus-1 and 15:34 minutes of ice time.
Matt Hellickson picked up an assist on Team USA's second goal, Adam Clendening, to make it a 2-0 game, while logging 16:19 minutes.
Canadian defenseman Owen Power posted one shot, a minus-2 and 14:32 minutes of play.

BELARUS 1, SWEDEN 0
Belarus: Yegor Sharangovich
German Nesterov scored the game's only goal for Belarus as they defeated Sweden, 1-0. Goaltender Danny Taylor stopped all 32 shots against to give Belarus its first win, 1-0-0-1.
Devils forward Yegor Sharangovich had one shot and 18 minutes played. He also was given a four-minute double minor for high sticking, though his team's PK unit killed both penalties.
Next: Sharangovich and Belarus will play Czech Republic at 1:15 p.m. EST.
SLOVAKIA 2, GREAT BRITIAN 1
Slovakia: Marian Studenic
Devils winger Marian Studenic recorded five shots for Slovakia, which defeated Great Britain, 2-1. Marek Hrivik and Robert Lantosi scored the two goals for the Slovaks, whom improved to 2-0-0-0.
