The Devils found success in December and the start of January, but faced a setback in their 5-2 loss to the Colorado Avalanche on January 4th. The team went into practice on Monday focusing on playing a full and complete game, something they didn't do in the game against Colorado.
"Last game I think we had one period we weren't playing well, but even there I think 40 minutes we were playing our game," said Nico Hischier to media after practice. "Now we will readdress the things we want to do better from that game. But right now we have to forget about that game, and focus on us and the Islanders."
Interim Head Coach Alain Nasreddine was happy with the team's effort in practice Monday and how they are resetting.
"We have to stay humble, we had some success. If you start cutting corners and taking shortcuts, it's going to come right back," said Nasreddine. "You can easily lose your game as much as you can find it."
This is the second time in a week these teams are playing each other, and Hischier said the team is looking to stay even-keeled heading into Tuesday night.
"For now, we always say not getting too high, not getting too low. We just need to bring that tomorrow - 60 minutes - not just 40."
