Larry Robinson had a very specific, unforgettable 'Welcome to New Jersey' moment, after signing as an assistant coach in 1993, his first foray into coaching after he retired from the game as a player.
"This is the best story," Robinson told the Speak of the Devils Podcast.
Robinson was living in Los Angeles prior to joining the Devils. He had just accepted the job, and with training camp around the corner decided to make the drive from California back to the East Coast.

"I bought my son of a little red Jeep, a red Jeep with a black top," he continued. "And he ended up going back to college. So right away, I said, 'You know what, I'm going to take that [Jeep] and go to Jersey."
Robinson loaded up the Jeep with all his belongings and hockey gear and began making his way to New Jersey. He parked his car outside the hotel, across the street from the arena where training camp was set to be held.
"This was my first time there," Robinson recalled. "I pull up to the front, I'm looking around thinking 'Yeah, this must be the place'. So, I grabbed my briefcase and walk in to check-in, I'm greeted for my first training camp and they give me all the leaflets and all the stuff for training camp.
"Then, I walked back out -- no vehicle. I was there a total of 15 minutes, came back out and somebody stole my car, my clothes, everything is gone."
Robinson had lost everything, including all his skating gear and skates. Sticks and all.
"They found the car two and a half weeks later," Robinson laughed, "It had been all stripped down and so they asked me if I wanted it. I said, 'Oh no, not really. But I wouldn't mind my clothes back.'"
