The NHL announced the draft lottery and the changes with this year's format today, and Devils interim GM Tom Fitzgerald discussed what that means for the Devils and the conditional picks they hold.

"They didn't get into the conditional picks today and how that reads," said Fitzgerald. "They did not define that particular item."

"[The League announced] the draft lottery and moving the draft back to an unknown date. Whenever the season is to end, whenever the Stanley Cup is handed out, I imagine it would happen pretty quickly after that. So we still have plenty of time to really start focusing our attention on other aspects of the organization, hockey operations department wise, on top of the draft," said Fitzgerald. "It was pretty interesting listening to how they described the two potential phases of a lottery and how that could work. Again, things are out of our control. The league knew our thoughts on a lot of this stuff."

"All we can do is control what we can control, and that's making sure our list building is [good] and we're real comfortable with where our list ends up. Again we have a lot of time now and a lot more video, and that's exciting."
