Victor Mete

BUFFALO - The Canadiens were represented on both sides of the ice in the Canada-Finland showdown at the World Junior Championship on Tuesday.

Victor Mete (Canada) and Joni Ikonen (Finland) faced off on the first day of the tournament, which is being hosted this year by the United States. Team Canada came out on top in the game, beating Finland 4-2.
The Habs defenseman registered an assist on the game-winning goal scored by Drake Batherson in the first period. He was also initially credited with a helper on Taylor Raddysh's middle-frame marker, but the mention was removed later on in the game.
Mete was named Canada's player of the game.
As for Ikonen, he was held off the scoresheet but managed two shots on net.
Later in the evening, the Habs' first round pick from the most recent draft, Ryan Poehling, was part of an easy 9-0 win with the Americans opposite Denmark.
The Minnesota-born center was held off the scoresheet, however.
