BOSTON - Boston University defenseman Ty Gallagher is looking to bring a competitive edge to his second Development Camp since being selected by the Bruins in the seventh round of the 2021 NHL Draft.

"I just want to get out there and play my game," said Gallagher, the 6-foot defensemen, who will be entering his sophomore year with the Terriers this fall. Gallagher had a successful freshman year at BU, where he appeared in 34 games and recorded five goals and 11 assists for 16 points. He was also recognized several times for his strong 2021-22 campaign, earning Hockey East All-Rookie Team, Hockey East Defender of the Week (Dec. 13, 2021), and two Hockey East Rookie of the Week titles (Oct. 25, 2021, Jan. 10, 2022).
The rising sophomore also got his first taste of earning a big win at the TD Garden back in February, when the Terriers took home the Beanpot championship in a win over Northeastern University. "it was a once in a lifetime opportunity," said Gallagher. "Coming to Boston and seeing how much of a religion these rivalries are, it was awesome to be able to win that tournament."
With Gallagher in the midst of his second Development Camp, he is committed to keeping an open mind when it comes to suggestions on improving his game. "I'm just embracing all the tips and tricks that the staff is giving me," said Gallagher. "Sometimes a new set of eyes is the best thing for you and I'm taking everything they give me to bring back to BU next year."

When it comes to specific things he would like to work on this week, he kept it simple, saying, "I want to get bigger, faster, stronger," while noting that each year and at each new level, the skill and size of the players continues to improve.
Someone Gallagher said that he enjoys watching get bigger, faster and stronger, is Marc McLaughlin, the 22-year-old forward who appeared in 11 games this past season for the B's, earning three goals and some valuable time on TD Garden ice.
"It's awesome to be on the ice with a guy like that," said Gallagher. "He's a hard worker, and to see a guy like that who's that much closer to the NHL and just how he works and approaches every day is fun to watch and is something I can take notes on."
Gallagher has also taken notes on fellow Boston University Terrier, Charlie McAvoy. "I try to model my game after McAvoy," said Gallagher. "It's hard to be as good as him but he's a BU guy and just the way he carries himself around the rink and around Boston is great."
The Michigan native added that he thinks he fits right in to the Bruins organization with his winning mentality and penchant for hard work. "I'd like the fans to know that I'm a hard worker and I'm going to do what it takes to be successful," sad Gallagher. "And I like to win, I'm a competitive guy."
