STL@WPG: Allen flashes the leather to deny Ehlers

WINNIPEG-- Jake Allen made 26 saves, and Colton Parayko scored for the St. Louis Blues in a 1-0 win against the Winnipeg Jets at Bell MTS Place on Friday.

Allen stopped Bryan Little with a left-pad save with four seconds remaining in the third period. It was his first shutout of the season.
"We had to shut them down," Allen said. "It was a challenge, especially after the last game what they did to us in our rink, so it was a big way to get a win."

St. Louis allowed eight goals to Winnipeg, five by Patrik Laine, in an 8-4 loss Nov. 24.
"It's something we definitely want to take pride in, is being a good defensive group, and we weren't happy with what happened at home last game, obviously," Blues defenseman Robert Bortuzzo said. "Guys stepped up and made hard plays in hard areas and tried to take a lot of their shooting areas away."

"The sacrifices that we made today, the blocked shots by Bortuzzo, the big saves by [Allen]," Blues forward Alexander Steen said. "Timely saves, he was outstanding tonight."
Winnipeg, which has the third-ranked power play in the NHL (27.3 percent), was 0-for-6 and limited to four shots.
"We're going to throw a goose egg up every once in a while," Wheeler said. "It's our job, especially in a close game, to come through there (but) weren't able to do it."

They said it

"I could care less, honestly. A big win for us. I'm not a stats guy, unfortunately, but maybe it's a lucky day every year so I'll mark this one on my calendar." -- Blues goalie Jake Allen, who shut out the Dallas Stars 3-0 last Dec. 7 for his first of that season
"That thing was going about 10 yards wide, and first off I was a little bit screened, but when it's going 10 yards wide I let it go, then all of a sudden off the knee pad, off the ice and in. Not much I can do about that." -- Jets goalie Connor Hellebuyck on the goal, which deflected off teammate Bryan Little
