The Columbus Blue Jackets have added defenseman Billy Sweezey to the roster on emergency recall from the Cleveland Monsters, the club's American Hockey League affiliate, General Manager and Alternate Governor Jarmo Kekalainen announced today.

Sweezey, 27, made his NHL debut with the Blue Jackets earlier this season on February 26 at Minnesota, finishing with three hits on 10:01 of ice time. He has registered four goals and 22 assists for 26 points with 202 penalty minutes and 122 shots on goal in 144 career AHL games with the Monsters and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins since making his professional debut in 2020-21. This season, he has collected 0-11-11, 62 PIM and 46 shots in 52 games with Cleveland and ranks second on the club in penalty minutes.
A native of Hanson, Massachusetts, Sweezey signed a two-year, two-way NHL/AHL contract for the 2022-23 and 2023-24 seasons with the Blue Jackets on Mar. 7, 2022. He recorded 3-26-29 with 159 PIM and was +16 in 127 career NCAA games at Yale University from 2016-20. The 6-1, 206-pound defenseman also spent parts of two seasons with the Dubuque Fighting Saints and Chicago Steel of the United States Hockey League from 2014-16, collecting 3-1-4 and 135 PIM in 58 appearances.
The Blue Jackets return to action on Tuesday when they visit the New York Rangers. Game time from Madison Square Garden is 7 p.m. ET.
