TheColumbus Blue Jackets have added forward Calvin Thurkauf to the roster on emergency recall from the American Hockey League's Cleveland Monsters and have assigned defenseman Gabriel Carlsson to its AHL affiliate, Blue Jackets General Manager Jarmo Kekalainen announced today.
Thurkauf, 22, has registered 22 goals and 29 assists for 51 points with 101 penalty minutes in 148 career AHL games with the Monsters since making his professional debut in 2017-18. He has set single-season career highs in assists, points and plus/minus rating with 9-16-25 with 37 penalty minutes and a +6 plus/minus rating in 47 contests with Cleveland this season. The 6-2, 204-pound forward ranks second-T on the club in goals, third-T in points and plus/minus and fourth-T in assists.
A native of Zug, Switzerland, Thurkauf notched 51-64-115 and 141 penalty minutes in 121 career games with the Kelowna Rockets in the Western Hockey League from 2015-17. He has represented Switzerland at numerous international tournaments, including the 2018 IIHF World Championships, as well as the 2016 and 2017 IIHF World Junior Championships. He was selected by Columbus in the seventh round, 185th overall, at the 2016 NHL Draft.
