Two quick goals early in the second period and 31 stops from Kevin Lankinen on the night propelled the Blackhawks to victory, 2-1, over the Carolina Hurricanes, who had lost just one of their last 14 outings coming into the night.
Dylan Strome and Alex DeBrincat scored just 3:33 apart in the middle frame in the win.

STAT OF THE NIGHT: With his 19th goal of the year, DeBricnat surpassed his goal total for all of last season in just his 33rd game (18 goals in 70 games in 2019-20).

Kirby Dach made a play along the boards in the neutral zone, chipping a bouncing puck past the Hurricanes defense and into the path of Dylan Strome. Strome walked into the offensive end, looked off a pass to linemate Mattias Janmark on a 2-on-1 and then put a shot of his own past Alex Nedeljkovic's glove for the game's opening goal.

The Blackhawks struck again early in the second on the man advantage. As the Hurricanes went to clear the zone, Patrick Kane pickpocketed defenseman Brett Pesce in front of the Carolina net and quickly slid a pass to Alex DeBrincat at the side of the goal. The winger quickly potted his 19th goal of the season for a 2-0 lead.

Carolina got on the board before the middle frame's end off a double deflection in front on a low-angle shot. Brady Skeji skated the puck towards the near-side corner and put a shot towards goal that Andrei Svechnikov tipped with a stick in front, then bouncing off the shin pad of Wyatt Kalynuk on the weak side of the goal and in to make it a 2-1 game.
