2020 Stadium Series: Practice Day

U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo.--The Colorado Avalanche hosts the Los Angeles Kings this evening outside at the U.S. Air Force Academy's Falcon Stadium.
The 2020 Navy Federal Credit Union NHL Stadium Series will mark the second regular-season outdoor game for the Avalanche after the team hosted the 2016 NHL Stadium Series at Coors Field in Denver against the Detroit Red Wings.
The matchup will be played at 6,621 feet above sea level, a record for an NHL regular-season outdoor game, surpassing the 5,200-foot elevation of Coors Field.

Nine players on the Colorado roster have played in an NHL regular-season game outside, plus German netminder Philipp Grubauer, who dressed but did not play in the Washington Capitals' 5-2 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs in the 2018 Stadium Series game at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium. After that contest, tonight's outing marks the second time the NHL has brought the Stadium Series to a U.S. Service Academy.
Grubauer will however be in net this evening, making his third straight start. Head coach Jared Bednar noted in his pregame availability that the rest of the Avs lineup will remain the same as it was in the team's last game on Thursday versus the Washington Capitals.
It is the first of three meetings between Colorado and Los Angeles this season. The Avalanche earned points in each of the three games last season, posting a 2-0-1 record.
