The Utah Mammoth enter the second week of the regular season with a slate of three road games. Here are some Mammoth storylines going into the week! 

Main Storylines – Utah 

  • Utah went 2-1-0 in the team’s first week of the regular season. The Mammoth picked up wins over the Chicago Blackhawks (6-0) and the Columbus Blue Jackets (4-1), but suffered a loss to the New York Rangers (4-2), in the second half of a back-to-back.
  • Captain Clayton Keller recorded his 600th career NHL point on Saturday, while his linemate and friend Nick Schmaltz hit the 500th career NHL point benchmark in the same game.
  • Goaltender Sebastian Cossa had his first NHL start on Saturday against Columbus. He recorded his second career NHL win after he stopped 17 of the 18 shots he faced from the Blue Jackets.
  • Entering the week, Utah’s special teams units are off to a strong start. The Mammoth's power play (66.7%) and penalty kill (100%) are first in the NHL. Utah is one of six teams that has yet to allow a power play goal this season.
  • Utah has seven skaters with goals over the first two games. Schmaltz leads the team with four goals, while Dylan Guenther has three. Utah’s five other skaters with goals have one each.
  • Utah has three games this week to wrap up a five-game road trip. The week starts in New Jersey on Tuesday, before Utah plays Boston on Thursday, and Buffalo on Saturday.

UTAH VS NEW JERSEY

OCT. 6 | 5:00 P.M. MT

This is the first of two games between Utah and New Jersey this season.

Season Series

  • Oct. 6: UTA vs NJD
  • Dec. 29: NJD vs UTA

Main Storylines – New Jersey

  • Tuesday is New Jersey’s third game of the season. The Devils beat the Philadelphia Flyers in overtime, 3-2, for their season opener; however, New Jersey was shut out by the New York Islanders, 6-0, two nights later.
  • Through its first two games, New Jersey’s blueliners have contributed two of the team’s three goals. Defensemen Dougie Hamilton and Luke Hughes have a goal apiece, while center Jack Hughes has the team’s other goal.
  • Tuesday is one of two games for the Devils this week. New Jersey hosts the Vancouver Canucks on Saturday.

UTAH VS BOSTON

OCT. 8 | 5:00 P.M. MT

This is the first of two games between Utah and Boston this season.

Season Series

  • Oct. 8: UTA vs BOS
  • Jan. 23: BOS vs UTA

Main Storylines – Boston 

  • Boston enters the week with a 2-1-0 record. The Bruins opened their season with a 3-0 win over the New York Rangers. On Boston’s first back-to-back of the season, the Bruins beat the Winnipeg Jets in overtime, 4-3, but suffered a 4-1 loss to the Minnesota Wild the following night.
  • The Bruins have seven different players with goals through the first week of the regular season. Former Mammoth forward JJ Peterka leads Boston with two goals. After three games, he’s averaging the second highest ice time out of all forwards.
  • When the Bruins host the Mammoth, it’ll be Boston’s second game this week, and second of a three-game homestand.

UTAH VS BUFFALO

OCT. 10 | 5:00 P.M. MT

  • Jan. 27: BUF vs UTA

Main Storylines – Buffalo 

  • Buffalo played its first two games of the regular season last week. After suffering a 6-3 loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets, the Sabres bounced back with a 4-3 win against the Chicago Blackhawks on Saturday.
  • Entering the week, Jack Quinn’s two goals lead the team, and Buffalo has six total skaters with goals over their first two contests. Owen Power’s three points (3A) lead the Sabres.
  • When the Mammoth visit Buffalo on Saturday, it’ll be the Sabres final game of the week and third of a four-game homestand.
