World Championship: Faksa's career day paces Czech Republic's rout

Stars center Radek Faksa had a productive day at the World Championship in Slovakia on Sunday, tallying three points (one goal, two assists) as Czech Republic rolled over Austria, 8-0, for its third straight win.
Faksa's goal 6:30 into the first period gave the Czechs a 1-0 lead and held up as the game-winner. Washington's Jakub Vrana won a puck battle behind the Austrian net and set up Faksa, who scored from the right faceoff circle for his first career goal at the World Championship.
Faksa also assisted on a power-play goal that extended the Czech lead to 4-0 in the second period and then picked up an assist an even-strength goal pushed the lead to 8-0 in the third.

The three points in a World Championship game were a career high for Faksa, who came into Sunday with four points (all assists) in 13 career games.

Faksa centered the Czech's second line Sunday with Vrana and Dmitrij Jaskin of the Capitals on his wings. He had one shot on goal, a plus-1 rating, and won 9 of 12 faceoffs in 15:35 of ice time. So far in this year's tournament, Faksa has four points (one goal, three assists) a plus-2 rating in three games and has won 26 of 48 faceoffs (54.2 percent).
The Czechs, who improved to 5-1-0 with the win over Austria, conclude preliminary-round play Tuesday against Switzerland.
Stars defenseman John Klingberg and Sweden play Latvia on Tuesday. Klingberg has one assist in two games for the Swedes, who are 4-1-0 in preliminary round play.
The 2019 IIHF World Championship in Slovakia is a showcase for NHL players of the present, past and future who are not involved in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. The 16-nation tournament began May 10 and runs through May 26. For complete coverage, click here.
