Stars forward prospect Riley Tufte had another good weekend for the University of Minnesota Duluth, registering one goal and one assist Friday night as the Bulldogs defeated Minnesota, 3-2, in the opening game of the North Star College Cup, a tournament featuring four schools within the state of Minnesota.
Tufte scored to tie the game 1-1 with 1:09 left in the first period, picking off a pass in the Minnesota zone and tallying off a shot from the right circle. He set up a breakaway goal in the third that gave UMD a 3-1 lead. He had no points and four shots on goal as UMD defeated St. Cloud State, 2-1, in overtime to win the North Star College Cup on Saturday.
Tufte, the Stars first round pick in the 2016 NHL Draft, has registered seven points (five goals, two assists) in his past six games. Earlier in the week, Tufte was named the National Collegiate Hockey Conference's Offensive Player of the Week, after registering four points (three goals, one assist) the weekend of Jan. 20-21.
Tufte, a freshman, has eight points (five goals, three assists) and a plus-seven rating in 22 games.
