Predators Playoff Opponent Update

A Daily Update on the Predators Potential First-Round Opponent

Playoff Seeding & Opponent

The adjustments to the 2020-21 schedule and divisions will also impact the 2021 Stanley Cup Playoff format.

The top four teams in a division will make the postseason, with the No. 1 and No. 4 seeds facing off in the first round and the No. 2 and No. 3 seeds doing the same. The winners of those series will later face off in the second round.

Currently in fourth place in the Central Division, the Nashville Predators will likely be hunting for a playoff berth and postseason positioning until the final days of the regular season.

The Preds' magic number for locking their seed in the postseason is a combination of points gained by Nashville and potential points lost (or points not gained) by opposing teams. The beauty of magic numbers is that they can only decrease (never increase).

  • Nashville's percentage chance for making the playoffs: 98%
  • Nashville's magic number for clinching a playoff spot (fourth place): One win or 2 points*

Secondly, based on models playing out the regular-season schedule repeatedly and consistently on a daily basis, the Predators' most likely first-round playoff opponent(s) are listed and their pertinent stats included further down on this page.

Lastly, and most importantly, (almost) anything is possible. Sports Club Stats and PlayoffStatus.com are two of the sources used to help generate playoff clinching and future opponent scenarios.

*One win or combination of 2 points. The fifth-placed Stars' tragic number is 2.
