Preseason Game Day: Lightning vs. Preds, Sept. 22

The Nashville Predators return to home ice for the first time this preseason when they host the Tampa Bay Lightning tonight for a 7 p.m. CT puck drop at Bridgestone Arena. 

This evening’s contest is the second of four exhibition games for the Preds; they’ll complete a home-and-home set with the Carolina Hurricanes by the end of this week to finish the preseason schedule. 

The Predators started the preseason with a 2-1 loss in Tampa on Sunday, but despite the final score, the visitors were pleased with their efforts considering they dressed mostly rookies and prospects against an NHL heavy lineup for the Lightning. 

“I love the effort,” Preds Head Coach Andrew Brunette said Sunday night. “I thought the guys competed, played with some good detail. Didn't get a result, but a lot of really good things; really happy for them. Obviously, coming in here is always a little bit intimidating, especially when you see the other roster. I thought they did a really good job of playing on their toes and sticking together.”

Brady Martin scored the lone Nashville goal - an impressive tally, to say the least - and Juuse Saros played the entire game and made 20 saves in the loss.

Now, following a practice on Monday made up of predominantly everyday NHL players, the Preds will turn their attention to game action once more and another chance for some trial runs in their truncated training camp schedule.

“We’ve still got a lot of work to do,” Brunette said Sunday. “It's kind of a condensed camp, and urgency is at a premium here to be ready. So, tomorrow's another day. We’re looking ahead, not behind, and tomorrow's a day for us to get a little bit better.”

Preds forward Vitali Pinchuk was injured during the first day of training camp practice and is currently listed as day-to-day with an upper-body injury.
