Zemgus Girgensons signs contract with Sabres

Forward Zemgus Girgensons signed a one-year contract Thursday to remain with the Buffalo Sabres.
Girgensons, 22, was a restricted free agent. The contract is worth $1.15 million, Sportsnet reported.

"Zemgus has grown into a solid two-way player since beginning his career," general manager Tim Murray told the Sabres website. "We hope to see him continue this positive trend and find a consistent role within the club this season as another young player to grow with our group."

A first-round pick (No. 14) by the Sabres in the 2012 NHL Draft, Girgensons had seven goals and 11 assists in 71 games last season for Buffalo. He had an NHL career-high 15 goals and 30 points in 61 games in 2014-15 and was voted into the 2015 NHL All-Star Game.
The Riga, Latvia, native has 30 goals and 40 assists (70 points) in 202 career NHL regular-season games, all with the Sabres.
